A news in BusinessWire have reported that Kindle is the most purchased online item for the holiday gifts. As a result this has significantly increased the sales of online books. Currently, Amazon is selling more online books than the hard copy and it has the largest collection of popular books, including News Release and New York bestseller.

Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com has told the press that they are grateful to their customer for making Kindle the most gifted item in their history.

Further, Amazon’s sales record shows amazing fact about the consumer’s confidence in current times. Here are the few facts they have released about their sales:

On Amazon’s peak day, Dec. 14, 2009, customers ordered over 9.5 million items worldwide, which is a record-breaking 110 items per second.

Amazon Worldwide 2009 Holiday Facts :

  • Amazon shipped to over 178 countries.
  • One of our most remote shipments contained the EMU Australia Toddler Boot and was delivered to Atqasuk, Alaska.
  • On the peak day this season, Amazon’s worldwide fulfillment network shipped over 7 million units.
  • Amazon shipped over 200,000 units to APO/FPO addresses.

The result shows a great way ahead for online business and growth in the economy. Though its been decade long revolution of Internet Business, the hardware infrastructure wasn’t really right for the business to prosper. But with the rise of smartphones and eReader sales, we may be seeing new boost in the online economy.

On the other hand, Nook and Sony’s eReader seemed to have missed the biggest opportunity due the delay in their production line. Nook and eReaders, had a high demand initially, but I guess they just have to wait for their production line, currently Kindle is taking all the shares.
